Post- Playtest
Playtest Results
Hey all! Playtest went productively. Players really enjoyed the first scene which used the Opportunity Die to represent how far the Kaiju had torn up the ship they were on.
The Kaiju scene with the players defending the base made the Kaiju seem too distant. Either the force field would hold or it wouldn’t. They wanted a sense of fighting the Kaiju directly.
Changes Made to Kaiju Squish Rolls
The Scene now does not end when Opportunity runs out. Rather, once Opportunity Runs out the players have three rounds. The Kaiju Roll is different (and not automatically lethal) on rounds 1 and 2. Only if the players do not leave the area during round 3 will they face the possiblity of auto-kills.
During the 1st two rounds post opportunity the shaking Earth, falling debris and even the possiblity of a heat ray all pose severe risk to the players, but if there is something they want to risk it for they can risk it. (Or they might not be in a position to escape yet).
If escape has not happened by round 3 the possiblity of being stepped on like an ant is a real possibity and insta-deaths can occur
Killing a Kaiju
Given the massive size of the Kaiju relative to the players, a mapped scene for confronting the Kaiju is not feasible. Rather rules are now included for making a three step Kill-The-Kaiju plan. During this climatic scene there is a high chance people will die valiently in the attempt to bring the Kaiju down. Only if all players TPK does the Kaiju escape.
To make such a trap, players in earlier scenes must discover a weakness of the Kaiju. Finding this weakness out will be a key component of scenarios.
More changes to Come
I need to implement Resource Moves from Under a Hostile Sun into this system, to prevent Die-rolling-fatigue. That will come soon.
